ANGEL HUGHES

U.S. Coast Guard • Lieutenant

Lt. Christine Angel Hughes was born in Nyack, NY to Haitian immigrant parents and raised in Northern New Jersey. She graduated from high school in 2004, the same year she received her private pilot’s license. She attended Jacksonville University in Florida and graduated in 2008. While in college she earned her Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instrument Instructor (CFII) ratings. Angel Hughes joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 2009. Immediately upon completion of Officer Candidate School, she reported to Navy Flight School in Pensacola, FL and Corpus Christi, TX. She earned her Naval Aviator Wings in 2011 and reported to her first tour of duty in Miami, FL. Angel Hughes has deployed several times to the Caribbean and routinely exe-cutes missions involving search and rescue, homeland security, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, law enforcement, medical evacuations, and disaster relief. In 2015 she cofounded Sisters of the Skies (SOS) to cultivate and promote minority women in aviation through scholarship, mentorship, and emotional support. SOS has outreach programs geared towards students in elementary, middle, and high school. Her last duty station was in Mobile, AL where she served with the HC-144 Ocean Sentry as an Aircraft Commander. Angel Hughes has since moved back to Florida and is an Aircraft Commander with Air Station Miami. When she is not flying, Lt. Christine Angel Hughes enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children.
